Being as culturally oblivious as I am (a sign of my nerdiness, perhaps), I don't know what "nerdcore" refers to. The first time I saw the word was a couple of weeks ago in a thread on a different nerd community, but it was all in reference to music. So I figured it was another music genre. But it seems like it is being used here to refer to any aspect of what may be viewed as part of being a nerd.
I'm curious to hear how the different members of this community use the phrase. Has an admirable ring to it, whatever it may be.

Re: Nerdcore
Mon, March 22, 2004 - 1:39 PMhmm,
i'm not really sure if nerdcore is a music genre. maybe. i mean i've heard of the math genre and that sounds nerdy. also, "core" is used in a few music genres; hardcore, slowcore, and snorecore come to mind. maybe one of our new members can help shed some light on this matter.
speaking of music, does anyone mixtape? -

Re: Nerdcore
Mon, March 22, 2004 - 2:42 PMseems as though nerdcore is a style of hip hop... go figure.
when you say mixtape, do you mean make mixed tape's/cd's and trade them or does it mean something that I am just too nerdy to know?
if it is the first, i love making them. -

Re: Nerdcore
Wed, March 24, 2004 - 7:28 AMooo, i haven't made a mix tape since high school. it was so much easier to give a guy a mix than tell him you like him. actually, that's still true. -

Re: Nerdcore
Wed, March 24, 2004 - 1:28 PMSo true. The sad part is half the people you gave mixtapes to didn't even bother to listen to the lyrics, and that's where all the meaning was. Jerks. -

This is the maximum depth. Additional responses will not be threaded.

geekcore.
Thu, March 25, 2004 - 12:25 PMhmmm. the hierarchy. i have always listed "nerd" below "geek"
and "geek" below uber-geek. as for the core, i was thinking "hardcore" when i joined. i think you might be able to put math rock under nerdcore, math HUM or somthing like that.

Geek & Nerds
Sat, May 22, 2004 - 2:34 PMLong ago, I read in the Houston Chronicle that the different between geeks & nerds is that nerds had better social skills. By that reckoning, nerds have an advantage over geeks. When I told my grandfather this, he said it was still a step up for the geeks, for the definition of that actually is "someone who bites the heads off of chickens." I never considered ubergeek to be a compliment.
I'm not the guy you want deciding this. I wasn't up on the latest slang when I was in high school; how much should I care now? The last thing I heard, the phrase "off the hook" which used to mean "out of trouble" now means "better than ever", so...how the hell can I keep track of this stuff.
My name's Richard, and I'm a nerd...
"Hi, Richard."
...and that used to really bother me. I really wanted to be like everybody else. After years of suffering, I finally decided to face reality--not gonna happen, so get over it! After that, things got a little better. Glad I ran into you guys.
